Steamup at Jim McDavid's
September 23, 1996

SEPTEMBER STEAMUP REPORT:

We were back at it at Jim McDavid's on September 23. It was a perfect day and Jim, as usual, was the perfect host. We had some new members come out which always makes it just that much more fun. (Not mention that Ray Weidner showed up with Bourbon and Cigars.) Mike Krivohlavek brought along a locomotive he has been working on and it was a real treat. He has been building the Charlie Mynheir Steam in the Garden locomotive and has done some impressive work. The chassis is complete and he is working on the boiler and plumbing now. This will be fun to watch, and we'll keep you posted as Mike shares information on his progress.

The usual gang of rowdies were also there, and it turned into an Aster Americanized Mogul love-in for an hour or so towards the end. Gary had his stellar machine out for a double header with Jim McDavid's, and shortly thereafter I fired up my Suzuki Special for a double header with Jim's. Much comparing of notes on fuel systems and such.

We had Franks, Baldwins, Climaxes, Moguls, Charlies, Bashes, Projects, and Janes. Wide variety of locomotives, with a wide variety of variations. Kevin O'Conner has been cooking up a butane bar burner for his Jane which he showed off. (Never mind the Jane Aflame portion of the day...)

Baldwin pulling it's weight.

Mike had his Charlie chassis, I had a few Suzuki Specials including a much modified PLM 231 and a much improved Baldwin B1, Kevin's Frank S. was in perfect form, Gary's had his excellent scaled up Mogul, and Jim's improved Climax put in a strong performance. Much thanks to Jim for opening his track for us again. His layout is perfect for these events because it's such a comfortable place to watch the steamers run, socialize, and work on a locomotive.
